Lawn Geek By Trey Rogers

Have you seen the new book out by Trey Rogers? It's called "Lawn Geek" and it is a must read if you want to understand turfgrass better and want a better looking lawn. I am reading it now and plan to re-read certain chapters as needed. On the sod farm we often get questions that this book will help back up our answers. If you don't have time to read much, we sell a DVD on lawn care. The DVD was put together by two Turfgrass Professors who work with Trey Rogers at the Hancock Turf Center, Michigan State University. All three Professors are tops in their fields. Check it out!

McLeod's Mole Management

Find the area in the yard where the moles are most active. Usually in the early to mid morning.

Roll the area moving slowly, but not as slow as you would in the spring. I personally go in both directions, north-south, east-west.

Move away from the area, and shut off all equipment.

Wait a while before going back into the area.
Take a shovel with you and approach the area being very quiet, just as if you were deer hunting.

Watch carefully, the ground will raise up. Moles can hear very well, so walk up to him very slowly. When the mole is down deep, the surface will not move much.

When the mole moves forward, plunge the shovel into the ground behind him, turning the soil over, tossing him onto the surface.

Then you can choose one of several options:
1) Whack him on the head with the shovel.
2) Throw him over on the neighbors lawn.
3) Have your dog kill him.
4) If you catch enough moles you can take them to a taxidermist, you might end up with nice coat.

JOKE:

A mama mole, a papa mole, and a baby mole all live in a little mole hole.

One day the papa mole sticks his head out of the hole, sniffs the air and says, "Yum! I smell maple syrup!"

The mama mole sticks her head out of the hole, sniffs the air and says, "Yum! I smell honey!"

The baby mole tries to stick his head out of the hole, to sniff the air, but cant because the bigger moles are in the way so he says, "Geez, all I can smell is........

MOLASSES!
